THARAPHON
BUNGALOWS & RESTAURANT

Having
dinner at Tharaphon
Restaurant. It sits on stilts
at a point on the western end of Ao Chaloke Baan Kao. Across the
bay you can see a large rock formation at land's end. This is
Buddha Rock. Use some imagination and it does resemble a sitting
Buddha.
Tharaphon,
west of Chaloke Baan Kao, is a largely quiet spot with a private
stretch of sandy beach surrounded by boulders. Babaloo Beach Bar
is close by though and while most nights it remains chilled and
relaxed, when they throw a party it carries on until the early
hours. Snorkels, masks and fins can be rented at the reception
desk. However the water here can get a little murky, so you may
want to take your snorkel further down the main beach where the
water is clearer. Tharaphon's bungalows are nothing fancy but
they are spacious and in a good location. Plain wooden huts on
stilts line the rocks at the top of the beach and feature covered
decks with hammocks. Plenty of tree cover around the huts provides
a retreat from the sun after a day at the beach. A boardwalk leads
guests from their rooms to the friendly bar and restaurant and
then further into the centre of Chaloke beach, a short distance
away. Rooms will often be discounted when staying more than one
night so it's worth bargaining if you plan to stay a few days
or more.
