Isolated
on a hill above Jan Som Bay, Jansom Bay Bungalows offers
rustic accommodation in a relaxed setting geared mostly toward thrifty
travellers. Jansom Bay's basic wooden huts have slatted windows
and are worn on the inside. They are situated amid hillside jungle
where the constant hum of the cicadas eventually becomes so natural
that the silence can be overwhelming when they stop. The larger
units closer to the sea are a better choice but cost a bit more
and still lack in quality. Furthermore, much of the view here is
obscured by foliage. There is no beach access -- just a short stretch
of rocky water access -- but neighbouring Charm Churee allows visitors
to use their stretch of beach for 100B/day (children under eight
are free). It is a ten-minute walk to Mae Haad down a dirt road,
but motorbikes can be rented, and an on-call taxi service is also
available. Tours and boat trips can also be booked through their
reception.
