AROUND THE ISLAND
Windbeach Resort offers customized boat trip around
the island. Spend one day on a boat to explore
the secluded beaches of Koh Tao by boat. The day
trip boat will stop at the most beautiful diving
spots of Koh Tao, to give you the time to swim,
snorkel and explore the coastline.
Riding a motorbike or ATV will make you and your
family far more independent and lets you decide
where to go at any time you wish.
The longest and most popular beach on the island,
Haad Sairee stretches from the statue of Rama
V in the south to the headland at the far north,
almost opposite Koh Nang Yuan. It boasts both
busy entertainment areas at the southern end and
quieter, less-trafficked areas toward the headland.
The water is very shallow in places you can walk
for ages and get no deeper than your waist. Snorkellers
are better served staying on other beaches.
is home to some of the most upmarket resorts on
the island along with backpacker favourites through
to mid-range places ideal for families. In the
evenings entertainment can be very loud, so light
sleepers are better off staying toward the northern
end. It's also a very popular beach -- if you're
aiming for landing on Haad Sairee in peak season,
a reservation is a very good idea -- places, particularly
the cheaper ones fill up quickly.
A couple of small bays and beaches with a handful
of resorts are dotted beyond the north end, with
most places having either good views over the
beach or offshore to Koh Nang Yuan. It's a sleepy
spot but close enough to the main strip for a
Is the main town and transport hub of the island
it also happens to be a rather nice beach. It
has blossomed into an interesting melee of ancient
and modern with traditional Thai shop-houses next
to contemporary East-Meets west architecture.
Apart from all the important bits like the pier,
health center, Government Office, travel agents,
all the Dive Schools, Post Office, shops etc.
there are numerous great restaurants, loads of
bars and some of the islands best clubs and party
venues on the main stretch of Mae Haad, whilst
the serene southern end hosts some high end resorts.
walk away is Sairee Beach, the longest and most
poplar beach on the island which is like Mae
Haad with the important bits removed great bars,
great restaurants, great resorts, great dive schools
and 1.7 Km of pristine white sand. It has an excellent
view of Koh Nang Yuan islands whilst nearby is
a historical heritage site where King Rama V made
an inscription in 1899; there are some great jungle
walks and the School, Temple, Fishery Museum and
Police Station on the road to Mae Haad.
The private island of Koh Nangyuan which sits
off the northwest coast of Koh Tao audaciously
charges admission to all visitors -- we're not
fans of the island because of this policy.
For those who stay on the island, they tend to
enjoy the island in the early morning and later
afternoon, but in the middle of the day the island
tends to be overrun with day trippers. It's not
like Koh Nangyuan has an oversupply of beach real
estate, so things tend to get very crowded very
quickly -- especially when divers arrive.
Yes the island
is very pretty -- Koh Nangyuan is a stunning island
formed by three separate rocky outcrops connected
by white-sand beach, much of which is submerged
at high tide. The view from the southernmost outcrop
is particularly impressive. However Koh Tao does
offer plenty of other gorgeous spots that don't
charge for the privilege of setting foot on dry
land. Regular longtails from Mae Haad can whisk
you out here for 100 THB per person for the return
trip. The island will charge you another 100 THB
per person to set foot on the island -- how's
that for a welcome.
Resort we offer accommodation on Koh Tao all
the year around. Wind Beach Resort is located
on Sairee Beach in the north west of the island
Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. The famous
sunset view from the Wind Beach restaurants
porch attracts visitors and locals alike. Our
accommodation is laid back in a beautiful tropical
garden, right behind the white sandy beach of
