Open Water
Designed
for the beginner, this course will introduce you
to the wonders of the aquatic realm. The course
is designed to be fun, educational and enjoyable.
|
|
The
schedule is normally carried out over four days.
Day
1
An easy morning academic session covers some of
scuba diving's fundamentals. Snorkling techniques
and shallow confined water diving in the afternoon
introduce you to some of the skills required as
a diver.
Your
course instructor will help you confidently master
these skills in a calm and relaxed manner? After
all you are on holiday.
Day
2
You build on yesterdays exciting experiences and
master a few more challenges as your diving proficiency
grows.
Day
3
You've waited almost your whole life for this
one! After learning how to safely plan your dives,
your instructor will take you on your first two
Open Water certification dives, at two of Koh
Tao's beautiful dive sites.
Day
4
Almost certified! You'll make two final certification
dives in the morning, at two more of Koh Tao's
world famous dive sites. In the afternoon you'll
take a final review from your instructor and also
receive your SSI Open Water certification card.
If
it sounds easy, that's because it is.

Course is for you.

5
dives are scheduled over 2 days and are designed

advantages and disadvantages of deeper diving,
such as seeing different forms of marine life,
or experiencing nitrogen narcosis for the first
time.
|
The
navigation dive helps you master compass use, and introduces
you to the techniques of distance estimation and natural
navigation. Allowing you to gain a mental picture of
the dive site and returning to the boat every time.
There
are three other dives you can choose. Maybe you want
to see the barracudas feeding around White Rock during
the night dive. Perhaps you would like to learn to identify
more of the many different species of marine life, on
the naturalist dive and capture the aquatic world on
film in the photography dive.
For
those who would like to have a more modern approach
to dive planning try the Computer Dive.
If
you want to hunt for underwater treasure, the search
and recovery dive will teach you skills to make your
dreams come true.

options you choose Scuba Junction has the flexibility
to meet your needs. At the end of the course you will
receive your SSI Advanced Specialty card.

Courses
- Fitness
Recreational
diving is a safe sport all family members can
participate in. However, certain medical conditions
will require authorization by a medical practitioner
prior to entering any courses.
In
order to avoid disappointment we recommend that
you take the time to look and read through the
medical statement attached.
If
there are any areas to which you answer yes, you
will need to consult a doctor versed in hyperbaric
medicine prior to arriving on Koh Tao and taking
the course.
If
you are unable to find a doctor with hyperbaric
knowledge, please print out the guidelines for
recreational scuba diver's physical examination
(see below) and give these to your doctor prior
to consultation.
Please
note, a filled out medical form is required prior
to starting any recreational diving course.
Please
remember happy divers are safe and healthy divers!

Snorkeling
Apart
from being a diver's paradise Koh Tao is also
a snorkeler's paradise in which the beaches are
always quiet because most visitors are involved
in diving activities.
Snorkeling
reefs can be found all around the island and those
who fancy something more daring can snorkel with
sharks at Rocky Bay.
|
Koh
Tao - Roads
Road
conditions on Koh Tao range from basic concrete
to interesting!
The
"interesting" roads can range
from dirt tracks to roads that resemble
a dried up river bed.
Because
of the lack of drainage, dirt road conditions
can change significantly after heavy downpours.
If
you are renting any sort of vehicle we would
suggest that you check conditions prior
to going to the more remote areas around
the island.

Koh
Tao - Bike & Car Rental
Motorbikes
are widely available for rent on the island. Mostly
semi-automatic Honda Dreams (scooter) and a few
off road bikes.
Driving
license and helmets, or proof of prior experience
in riding bikes is not required. Combine this
with the conditions of the roads , it is not surprising
to hear, that there are many bike accidents.
Most
accidents are the result of people falling off
the bike. Due to the islands remoteness, repairs
to bikes may be very expensive, so please check
any damage on the bike before renting and read
the rental contracts CAREFULLY !!
The
main advice we can give to people renting bikes
with no riding experience is, be extremely careful
where you go, only take one person on the bike
and if you have an accident expect to pay for
it.
|
 |
If
this sounds too risky, stick to taxis or you can rent
one of the Quad bikes that are now available on the
island. These still provide the same enjoyment as a
motorbike but are normally safer than motorbikes and
are better suited to the bad road conditions.
Currently
car rental is very limited, but sometimes available.
Most people normally rent car taxis. There are many
taxis on the island, both car and motorbike.
Car
taxis usually have the word "Taxi" on the
side, or carry a large number on their side. Motorbike
taxi drivers wear red vests.
Motorbike
taxis and taxi ranks can be found next to all the 7-Elevens
on the Islad (Mae Haad, Sairee & Chalok Ban Khao).
Standard taxi fares are used.
It
is recommended to book taxis at night, as service is
limited. Except at Full or Black Moon parties, where
taxis are numerous at the party venues. Several resorts
and dive centers offer free taxi service during the
day, Scuba Junction is one of these.

Koh
Tao - Restaurants
There
is a wide selection of restaurants on Koh Tao
to suit all palettes. Cuisine is generally of
a high quality and excellent value for money.
Selections
of cuisine include Thai, French, Italian, Mexican,
Israeli, British and European.
There
are many styles of restaurants ranging from beach
style sunset dining to chill-out lounge style
where you can catch the latest movies.
For
those who require more of the global style gourmet
food Burger King, MacDonalds, Swensons, Pizza
Hut and Starbucks are all available at Chaweng
Beach in Koh Samui.
|
 |
Conditions
- Temperatures
Locals
would say that Koh Tao is always warm, other tourists
may feel that it is hot.
Temperatures
rarelly drop below 30 degrees, except in the monsoon
season, where they can plummet to 28 degrees.
Hottest
month usually is April, because of this during
the month water temperatures normally stay around
29/39 degrees.
Don't
forget to bring your sunscreen.
|
|
Conditions
- Visibility
Visibility
increases mid-December from 10 meters until April
where it can reach 30+. During the months of May
to August conditions are dependant upon wind and
sea-state. During September and October visibility
can increase to 20+ meters.
In
November, during the monsoon season it cannot
be predicted.
|
 |
Conditions
- Seasons
Koh
Tao has two types of season: weather and tourist.
Weather
:
Conditions are usually favorable from mid-December with
temperature and visibility increasing and flat seas
until April.
May
to August can bring changeable weather which can include
slight showers and windy periods.
Between
the months of September and October conditions re-peak
with good visibility and flat seas. Monsoon usually
occurs for the month of November.
Tourist
:
The island starts to fill just before Christmas and
continues up until the end of April. There is a second
period where the island fills again around about mid-July
until the end of September. If you would like to dive
during the busier periods we strongly advise that you
make a reservation for a bungalow at our resort.
|
Conditions
- Currents
Koh
Tao is one of the few islands in the world, that
only has one tide (Diurnal tide) a day. Due to
this unique feature the island doesn't suffer
the same amount of tidal exchange that is common
on the Andaman side (West cost) of Thailand.
This
results in safe and calm diving conditions.
The
only time that the island experiences any form
of current is around the dates of the full- and
black moons.
