Thailand
has been a well known holiday destination for many years,
but recently diving in Thailand has gained popularity.
With a growing market of more varied and demanding customers,
Thailand has many
resorts and locations to choose from.
When
deciding where to dive in Thailand, remember few other
locales offer such a comfortable blend of traditional
Thai culture and wonderful diving
as that available when visiting Koh Tao.

Koh
Tao is a beautiful island situated in the Gulf of Thailand.
A tropical climate means that in Thailand dive conditions
are ideal nearly all year round. Although the popularity
diving as a recreation has been on the increase, Koh
Tao's location has helped it to retain its un-spoilt
feel, despite certifying nearly half the divers training
in Thailand. Convenient for dive trips to the Angthong
marine national park, Koh Tao is well served with regular
access from Bangkok
via Chumpon, Surat or Samui.

Conveniently
located on Koh Tao's Sairee
Beach, Phoenix Divers is a PADI
authorized 5 Star Resort and
SSI Instructor Training Facility
so well qualified to assist you with your dive certification.
Specializing in catering to our customers needs and
schedules, Phoenix Divers help to make your diving experience
in Thailand as enjoyable as possible.
Phoenix
Divers employs the most experienced and thorough
instructors with over 20 years of combined experience.
We are happy to help you select which courses
you require, and teach at the pace of the students,
not the schedule of the dive shop. Groups are small,
personal and set in the most fun, relaxed, and stress
free environment found in Thailand.
Multilingual
courses are offered in English, Svenska, Norsk, Dansk,
Deutsch, and more. Phoenix
Divers has several air-conditioned class
rooms, a swimming pool, a spacious specialized dive
boat, and superb equipment.
Phoenix
Divers is able to cater to all your needs
being conveniently located across from the beach next
to AC Resort, Bar, Restaurant, Internet Shop, Store,
and Booking Agency.

Phoenix
Divers SSI and PADI Scuba Diving Courses
Offering both SSI and PADI courses, Phoenix Divers enables
you to choose which course suits you. Below are listed
the details of each progressive course, with both PADI
and SSI having equivalent levels.
PADI
Discover Scuba Diving / SSI Passport Diver
So
you are thinking of having a try at scuba diving, but
are not sure how you feel about it all. Well, with both
PADI and SSI, it is not a problem as we offer a single
day program which allows you to get out and go for a
scuba dive with no diving certification. There is a
brief dry land session to help you understand the essentials
of what happens when you go underwater, but the real
aim is to get you under the surface to see what an amazing
world there is to explore.
The
program is not designed to give you a full scuba diving
certification at the end of it, but you are able to
complete more scuba dives once you have gone through
one with a qualified Instructor. What most people find
is that the scuba diving experience is so incredible
that they move straight onto the Open Water diving course,
which then enables you to become a fully certified scuba
diver.

PADI
Scuba Diver (PADI ONLY)
It’s a common enough problem we see all the time; holidays
just never last long enough! With the Open Water diving
course lasting 4 days, it does sometimes put people
off – spending 4 days out of your time off from real
life learning something doesn’t always appeal.
With
the PADI Scuba Diver course though, you are able to
complete half of an Open Water diving course and still
get a scuba diving certification. It does limit you
to a maximum of 12 meters and you will have to dive
with a Dive Professional at all times, but now you are
half way to achieving the Open Water diving certification
and the freedom it gives you as a Scuba Diver.

Basic Skills
PADI
Open Water Diver / SSI Open Water Diver
The Daddy of all scuba diving courses. Take a giant
stride entry into the world of scuba diving with a four
day course designed to teach you the basics of scuba
diving and certify each student as an Open Water Diver.
The course begins the first afternoon with an introduction
to scuba diving and some basic classroom instruction.
The
following morning continues with some more academics
followed by an afternoon confined water session (shallow
water) in one of the many coral bays around Koh Tao
or our resort swimming pool. The confined session teaches
the necessary skills required to scuba dive and gets
each student comfortable with performing those skills.
The
following afternoon is two scuba dives that allow the
students to explore the undersea world and experiment
with buoyancy and the skills developed during the confined
water session. On the final morning the boat heads out
to some of Koh Tao’s premier dive sites for the last
two scuba dives of the course. Students get the opportunity
to explore down deep, down to 18 meters, and truly enjoy
their underwater adventure.
Upon
completion of the dive course each student is certified
as an Open Water Diver to go scuba diving to a maximum
of 18 meters.
If
you enjoyed your Open Water Diver course, the Advanced
Open Water/ Advanced Specialty Diver course is just
a few more days and five more scuba dives away.

PADI
Adventure Diver (PADI ONLY)
Just like the Scuba Diver course, the Adventure Diver
course is designed for those that don’t have enough
time to complete a full Advanced Open Water diving course.
Consisting of 3 scuba dives, it allows you to take your
Open Water diving certification to a new and interesting
level, where different types of scuba diving become
more accessible. Lasting for only a day you are now
well on your way to the Advanced Open Water / Advanced
Specialty Diver level.

PADI
Advanced Open Water Diver / SSI Advanced Specialty Diver
Now that you have discovered the amazing world of diving,
it’s time to take it a bit deeper and start to explore
some of the different forms of scuba diving available.
The Advanced Open Water / Advanced Specialty course
is two days in duration and a total of five dives. The
course is not all about skills, but experience. The
aim is to expose you to different forms of scuba diving,
whether it maybe deeper, at night or taking photographs.
The course starts students out working with some navigation
exercises to help them become more able to discover
underwater sites and still have an idea where they are.
It also includes a deep dive, bringing students to new
depths (30metres) and the chance to view new marine
life. See some reef sharks, don’t worry they’re just
friendly ones, or some large schooling barracudas and
groupers, all from the sea bed.
Students
then have the choice from a variety of different scuba
dives. The multi-level/computer dive allows them to
extend the depth and length of their scuba dive safely,
while the peak performance buoyancy dive continues to
work with buoyancy skills. The naturalist dive allows
the student to learn more about marine life and the
relationships that exist under the sea; while underwater
photography lets you bring home the memories from you
undersea adventures. By far the most popular option
is the night dive, bringing you deeper into a dark and
seldom discovered world. There are several other options
that can be incorporated into the Advanced Open Water/Advanced
Specialty course, so just ask email us to find out more.
One
thing to remember is that all the scuba dives you complete
on the Advanced Open water / Advanced Specialty course
count towards the individual Specialty diving courses
as well.
Once
you finished your two day course you are ready to do
some fun dives and really start exploring the world
you have uncovered. If you are ready to gain a bit more
confidence in scuba diving, consider looking at our
Rescue Diver/Stress & Rescue Diver courses.

PADI
Rescue Diver / SSI Stress and Rescue Diver
Now you have a few scuba dives under your weight belt,
you are ready to start taking your scuba diving to the
next level.
It’s
time to take on some responsibility for not only you
and your buddy, but also for other scuba divers.
If
you already have CPR and first aid training you are
ready to jump straight in and start to learn some of
the in-water skills, if not, don’t worry we provide
a CPR/First Aid course that is incorporated into your
Rescue/Stress & Rescue course. In three and a half
days you learn some basic and advanced life saving skills,
both in the water and also on land. The course is designed
to be a fun, yet challenging experience to build your
confidence as a scuba diver. Of any scuba diving course,
the Rescue/Stress & Rescue course is by far the
most fun, getting everyone on the boat involved (no
matter what their level) and having a great time. There
is never a shortage of volunteers willing to help out
with the rescue scenarios. After a few mornings and
afternoons of skills, you put everything together, with
adrenaline pumping, to complete the final diver rescue
scenario. If you are like the rest of us and addicted
to scuba diving, the next big step is doing some serious
scuba diving and a look at the first professional level
of scuba diving: Dive Master/Dive Control Specialist
course.

PADI
Specialty Courses / SSI Specialty Courses
Having completed your Advanced Open Water / Advanced
Specialty diving course, you can now start to look at
the individual scuba dives you have completed in more
detail. For example, a lot of people find that underwater
photography is great fun and a way to hold on to some
beautiful memories, but the pictures just don’t come
out quite right. By looking at Individual specialty
diving courses, you go into more detail about the specifics
that are required to get a lot more out of your scuba
diving.

Specialty
diving courses are designed to run for a maximum of
2 days with different specialties requiring different
amounts of scuba dives. Specialties available include:
Night, Deep, Navigation, Photography, DPV (underwater

PADI
Master Scuba Diver / SSI Advanced Open Water
Now you have reached the highest level of non professional
scuba diving. Rather than a course in itself, it is
more a recognition of you and your diving experience
and knowledge. Requiring a number of completed specialty
diving courses and logged scuba dives, the prestigious
level of Master Scuba Diver / Advanced Open water is
a mile stone in the educational scuba diving ladder.
Please email us to find out more details.

PADI
Dive Master / SSI Dive Control Specialist
As you progress through the scuba diving courses, it
is very natural for people to consider getting more
serious about their scuba diving or to just take some
time out from their normal lives to relax and start
scuba diving full time. Our Dive Master/ Dive Control
Specialist diving course is designed to bring you to
a new level of scuba diving, whether employment is your
plan or just gaining more in depth experience. Take
a few weeks or spend a few months in our dive shop learning
more on the technical side of scuba diving, exploring
different sites and building an experience you will
never forget. You will be a part of our staff from working
in the dive shop, to helping customers, to scuba diving,
to the nights out together on the island. Your Dive
Master/ Dive Control Specialist diving course is about
personal discovery and developing lifetime scuba diving
skills.

Fun
Diving around Koh Tao
The
island of Koh Tao is home to some of the best scuba
diving in the Gulf of Thailand. With over 25 beautiful
dive sites to explore, what more can you ask for when
it is all right on your door step.
No
matter what your certification level is, there are dive
sites to suit you. Whether you are looking to explore
the shallower coral reefs, swim through some of the
breath taking archways or travel to the deeper depths
of some of the pinnacles, Koh Tao has it all. No matter
which site you dive, you will always be surrounded by
an abundance of marine life.
At
Phoenix Divers, our Fun Divers are just as important
to us as our Students. In fact most students that certify
with us stay on to become our Fun Divers, and keep coming
back. With equipment that is kept to a very high standard
and small groups usually kept to 3 buddy groups per
Dive Master, your dives with Phoenix Divers are the
sort that will leave lasting good memories.

So
how does it all work? Well firstly, we endeavor to be
one of a few dive boats at dive site at one time. This
means being flexible with our departure times. The dive
boat goes out for 2 dives in the morning and then is
out again for 2 dives in the afternoon. The morning
dives leave at either 7am or 9pm to avoid being on a
congested dive site and the afternoon dives leave at
1pm. Night Dives are typically available throughout
the year, but we do have to cancel occasionally if the
weather conditions are not safe. We also offer the chance
of Full Day trips to Sail Rock, near to Koh Phangan.
This is a very popular trip as it gives you the chance
to leave late, have 2 dives and lunch all on the boat
before returning in the mid afternoon. Sail Rock is
not a site we are able to dive everyday, but we can
usually arrange a trip out there on request.
Remember
if it’s been a while since you last dived (usually over
6 months – experience depending) we will need you do
a Scuba Refreshment to make sure you are comfortable
and ready for the first time you get back in the water.
To learn more just read the section below.
Scuba
Review & Fun Dives
If
you haven’t been diving for some time, you will need
to refresh your basic knowledge and skills.
Spending
one afternoon, we can get you back to a safe and comfortable
level where your fun diving is really just that … FUN!
The
Scuba Review consists of a theory refresher, skills
work (to make sure you are still familiar with all the
equipment and how it all works) and then two fun dives
to ensure that your buoyancy control and awareness are
at a good level
When
you go out for your first fun dives after the Scuba
Review, you will really feel the benefit.
All
Fun Dives are led by a Dive Master to give you the chance
to see as greater a diversity of marine life as possible.
All
groups are kept small to ensure that you get the most
out of your dives. We also vary our departure time,
so as to avoid crowded dive sites.
