Recent
KT-DOC Projects
The
latest projects to take place in Koh Tao include the
diving Tuk Tuk dedicated to raise funds for Koh Taos
school kids marine education program and The Reef Rehabilitation
experiment with the help of the Royal Thai Navy, who
also donated 12 new marine buoys, to help areas that
suffered severe damage in the past recoperate whilst
saving broken coral fragments. Volunteers from most
dive shops joined the Navy Seals and worked together
on Koh Taos first restoration project.
Message
from the President of KT-DOC
Koh
Tao is a unique island where due to its size it might
not appear in some major maps but in 2003 it certified
almost half of the total of 70,000 divers in Thailand.
It is a tiny giant in the scuba diving industry.
With
the growth of the dive industry on the island, it was
time for the diveshops to get together to work towards
a common goal: to conserve the natural beauty of the
island and keep assuring quality diver education and
dive safety.
It
is my pleasure to announce that the Koh Tao Dive Operators
Club has been formed at the end of 2003. We will work
with the local authorities and launch various projects
throughout the year to support the tourism of Thailand,
growth of Koh Tao as well as protect the environment
of the island.
As
our first project, we are organizing a Koh Tao Festival
"Underwater World Day" on the 7th of February.
The aim is to make it an annual event to mark the opening
of the diving season of Koh Tao.
We
appreciate your interest and participation.

Message
from the Governor
Tourism
Authority of Thailand
On
behalf of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), it
gives me great pleasure to welcome the foundation of
the Koh Tao DIve Operators Club (KT-DOC).
As
part of our ongoing promotions, TAT has focused on various
forms of tourism, both land and marine, in the different
regions of Thailand that has allowed visitors the opportunity
to have new and exciting experiences. Koh Tao has also
rapidly developed into one of our country's most popular
tourist destinations. This is due to the island's abundance
of unique marine biodiversity and stunning underwater
narural beauty.
With
the increasing number of visitors coming to Thailand,
we are also aware of the importance of conserving our
country's natural environment, so that it does not suffer
from any negative impact. As such, in wishing to create
environmental awareness as well as promote the touristic
products and services on Koh Tao, the KT-DOC has organized
the Koh Tao Under Water World Day, an annual fun-filled
day of activities and seminars.
TAT
welcomes this effort in further promoting our country's
tourism and looks forward to working closely with the
Club and the local community to ensure that tourism
development has minimal impact on the unspoilt environment
of this beautiful island.
