Founded in 1996, ACE Marine Images have been dedicated to promoting Thailand for the future of tourism and the Thai people. Started as a small one man show filming tourists on their fundives ACE has grown and the tourist video industry is booming across Thailand. Dozens of budding video makers, some good some not so good, are submerging and breaking away from the normal divemaster/instructor route. A truly creative work option with the scuba diving industry.

Whale Shark Identification Database

In conjunction with other global photo identification databases, ACE Marine Images is now accepting your photos for submission into our new database. We hope to help in the global effort to further our understanding of these enchanting creatures so that we may better protect and conserve them.

All the courses at ACE Marine Images have been developed by our team pulling on years of experience of producing underwater images.

We teach both photography and video with a simple and practical philosophy, we want you to learn.
We aim to develop your ability to the highest possible level.

ACE Marine Images have selected SSI to be the certifying body for these courses due to their flexibile teaching philiosphy, proffessionalism and care for the environment.

A select few instructors each year will have the opportunity to be certified to teach these courses.

Underwater Video/Photo

Underwater Photography and Underwater Video Courses

With 10 years experience the ACE team have taught hundreds of students and hundreds more have learned from them. All of the 30 or so underwater videographers on Koh Tao have learned from ACE Marine Images in one way or another, the good ones have done our course. Many of our photography students are now published photo-journalists and are enjoying income from their work.

These courses are ideal for divers who want a creative underwater challenge. Whether you've never had a camera in your hand on land or simply want to improve the quality of your images or footage then these are the courses for you.

Both video and photography courses follow a similar schedule and are based on a creative and practical philisophy;

1. A minimum of 3 land sessions

2. 8 dives at Koh Tao's top dive sites, usually 2 dives per day

3. Basic introduction to editing software/photoshop

By the end of these courses you will have improved your diving skills and your image!! Our courses are a real life experience, we focus heavily on safety and protecting the environment while teaching you the required skills for world class imaging!

Editing Software and Photoshop Courses

Once you have mastered the skills required for video or photography you may wish to take it to the next level. We offer in depth courses in editing using the most popular systems out there, Final Cut Pro for Mac users and Adobe Premier for PC users.

The ACE Marine Images/SSI video specialty course focus more on the camera work than the editing, as we want our students to be great camera men/women before getting into post production.

That’s why we offer this unique course, for those who want to learn how to create blue screen effects, keeping track of multiple soundtracks, adding sexy effects and getting more hands on experience in editing.

ACE Marine Images are working on everything from 1 minute promos, to 2 hour documentaries, and as a student you have a chance to see just how we are creating the effects you see in our finished products.

Tech Diving Courses

Explore the virgin wrecks in the Gulf of Thailand with Trident.

The MV Trident is a live-aboard boat set up for teaching, day trips and 5 – 7 days explorative trips.

The crew of MV Trident have found several ship wrecks in the last few years, including some WWII Japanese wrecks, an American Balao class submarine the USS Lagarto, an oil drilling ship and many, many more.

The “Shadow Divers” - John Chatterton & Richie Kohler – took a break from their History Channel show “Deep Sea Detectives”, and came here with an independent film crew to record what Steward Oehl and Jamie McLeod have been discovering so far, and it is an impressive record. The idea is to make a documentary about the heroes of the USS Lagarto, a US submarine sunk at the end of WWII, while she was attacking a Japanese convoy. The submarine disappeared and was found by the MV Trident crew 60 years later.

Most longer trips incorporate both old favorites and also the chance to be the first person on a new wreck. There are many marks listed as potential wrecks here in the Gulf of Thailand, just waiting for these professional tech diving explorers to find them.

There is a nitrox and trimix station on the boat, and courses are conducted in clear tropical water, around Koh Tao. Day trips and over night trips are available to wrecks lying in between 40 and 80 meters of water.

Get in on the Hammerhead tour, the WWII Japanese wrecks sunk by the USS Hammerhead include the Tottori Maru, the Nanrei Maru and the Kinrei Maru. Trident have found them all!

There are now several high quality technical diving operations in Koh Tao, all of whom function in conjunction with ACE Marine Images and MV Trident. One of those worth a mention here is the relatively new Big Blue Tech who work with the MV Trident as well as venturing into the unknown on their own adventures including the fresh water caverns of Khao Sok National Park.

It is important to point out here that tech diving can be a dangerous occupation and should only be attempted with professional operators like the Trident and Big Blue Tech. Trying to dive from a poorly equipped vessel is very likely to end in injury or even death!
